General Information

Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Situated on the eastern coast of the Island of Formentera, Tramuntana is a popular destination for surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert levels. It is not a good spot for beginners because there are some strong undercurrents here which you need to be aware of. The best time to surf here is between the months of May to October as this is when the good south westerlies blow. There is parking close by although a small fee may be charged during the height of the summer.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

Tramuntana has a small sandy beach with rocks scattered all along the shoreline., so you may need to pick your spot wisely. It does get pretty crowded in June, July and August and time restrictions apply from April through to September so check the signs on the beach.

Wind&Waves

Wave spot Regular wind

As with most spots along this island, the wind comes from two different directions. From October to May you will get hit with south westerly breezes and from June through to September it is more easterly. The wind speed hovers around 8 knots and is fairly consistent, however it can get gusty, particularly during the winter months. Winds are generally lighter during the summer. The water is flat to choppy with small waves of around 1 meter, when the wind is from a south westerly direction. Like most Med spots, the water quality is crystal clear. The water temperature can get up to around 28 degrees during the summer but drops to around 9-10 degrees in the winter.

Parking

There isn't a lot here apart from the odd beach side Chiringuito. If you wanted supplies, then you would need to head into the nearest town which is Maryland or Calo de San Augusti (about 4 kms down the coast)

Safety

Rips/undertows

Beware of strong tidal currents. Also watch out for the rocks near the shoreline and bathers during the summer. You are not permitted to surf outside of the times posted at the beach.
