Beach

Travemeunde offers a vast expanse of wide sandy beach but not in the summer. During the height of the season it is awash with tourists and beach chairs. Probably the best time to go is just out of season. The end of September, beginning of October is ideal. To get here you need to take the A1 out of Hamburg to Lubeck, take the A226 and B75 for Travemeunde and follow the signs for the beach which is situated to the left of the harbor.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The winds here are mainly westerly or variations thereof. The best wind direction occurs from the north, northeast and this happens mainly during the summer months, but not too often. Wind speed averages out at around 9 knots but can be quite gusty at times. The water quality is clean with the waves being choppy due to the boat traffic. A small wave can be around 1 meter high, but with the wind in the right direction, it is possible to catch one up to 3 meters. Water temperature stays at around a comfortable 15 degrees in the summer but can drop to around 2 degrees in the winter so you will need to suit up accordingly.
