General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Although the Perth area is generally speaking developed and built up, the odd oasis like this one exists for those who like to keep out of sight of the city.  This spot was made for watersports, with excellent wind and waves that attract surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers of all ability levels.

Beach

The beach is big and consists of soft white sand with a large grassy area behind it that can be used for setting up or cleaning gear.  It can be busy during the summer, but the size means you should be able to find somewhere to launch a kite easily enough.  The sea temperature will reach a maximum of about 25C in summer, with the air hitting the high thirties or low forties.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

December to March is the main season here, when the consistent ‘Fremantle Doctor’ wind comes in from the southwest every afternoon at speeds between 15 and 25 knots.  Winter is useable, but the conditions are nowhere near as good and the wind is strong and gusty.  As far as the water goes, you get small to medium sized waves (up to 3m max) which attracts the surfers – the bigger waves are found breaking by the reef.  The water is always clean.

Facilities

There is a good sized parking lot close to the beach, and there you’ll also find showers, toilets and a food outlet.  It’s convenient to get to and is just north of Scarborough, so accommodation and nightlife is within easy reach if you need it.

Safety

Watch out for the many swimmers who will be here in summer, and be careful of the reef, especially if you are surfing – it is easy to get too close to it and damage a board.
