General Information
Level:3-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
Just a bit further west than the Dutch Harbor spot, this is good for intermediate and better windsurfers and kiters. It’s a nice friendly spot in some of the most spectacular surroundings you are ever likely to see., and it’s within easy reach of a couple of other places if it doesn’t take your fancy.
-
Beach
-
The beach is made up of small stones and rocks so you’ll need to watch your footing a bit, especially as the launching area is only small. Water temperature is never more than a few degrees and the air barely gets over 10c, so bring a good thick drysuit if you plan on going out here.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The season here isn’t bad, when you have useable wind and generally good conditions from May to September. The best wind direction is from the northwest, when you’ll get a good 15-20 knots, although it can also blow from the southeast and be a bit more gusty. The place is independent of tide movements and the water is crystal clear, though its’ rarely flat – you’ll usually see small waves, up to about a metre high. Crowds are unheard of here, there won’t be more than a couple of windsurfers out and as for kitesurfing, well, they’ve heard of it.
-
Facilities
-
There is only parking here really, unless you want to send a letter from the Post Office behind you. Go east to Dutch Harbor to find accommodation, bars and places to eat.
-
Safety
-
Avoid the rocks on the beach, they have been here thousands of years and won’t move just because you hit them.
