Situated in the province of east Attica around 40 kms east of the capital Athens lies the beach at Vravrona. It  is a popular spot for wind surfers of expert abilities. Kite surfers are not recommended to surf here because the wind can become extremely gusty. Because of it's close proximity to the main airport at Athens (approx 20 mins) it can get very crowded during the busy summer months so there may well be restrictions in place during this time. It is advisable to check before you set off.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach here although made up of soft white sand is quite small in size (approx 800 meters long and only 25 meters or so wide). To get here you will need to head eastbound out of Athens following the signs for Vravrona. Here you will fins ample parking.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The main wind direction here is north east, however most wind directions work well here. Beware that it can get extremely gusty so it is advisable to check before you head on out. In July and August when the thermals kick in the wind becomes more consistent at around 3-4 bft but during the winter it becomes very sporadic. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are flat to choppy most of the time. So good conditions for wind surfers. The water temperature remains somewhere between 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of the year so you may well want to suit up or suit down accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

There is nothing much at the beach itself apart from parking. However a short walk down the coast there are bars, restaurants, shops and accommodation. If you fancy letting your hair down, then head on back to Athens.

Safety

Be mindful that the wind can be extremely strong and keep a look out for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer season.
