General Information
Level:10-10 Season:May 1 — October 1 -
This is a great spot for lots of watersports including kitesurfing, windsurfing and catamaranning. The flat water makes it particularly suitable for beginners. Best season is May to October.
-
Beach
-
There is a small natural beach with a mixture of grass and sand and sufficient space to launch and land kites. On entering Wackerballig there is a parking zone for surfers and the beach is a short stroll away. The area can get quite busy during the Summer months and as the beach is so small, it can be tricky finding enough space for launching.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The frontal winds tend to blow in from westerly directions although the area works best with a north wind or north westerly when they can be anywhere between 3-9 Bft. The best winds are considered to be from May to September with the lightest winds being the summer winds. The water is clear, flat and shallow with the waves working at around 1 metre sometimes rising to a respectable 3 metres with a rising tide. The flat water makes it ideal for beginners although with strong winds, mast high swell is possible and the water can turn choppy. The water temperature is surfable during March to November with an air temperature starting from 5o C in March, rising to about 19o C at the height of summer, dropping to about 12o C. in October. The typical German weather will allow for kiters outside of this, but the weather can be bitterly cold.
