General Information

Level:0-10 Season:October 1 — April 1

One of only 3 lagoons scattered along the Red Sea coast of Egypt, Wadi Lahami, lying to the south of the Red Sea resorts and 400 kms south of Hurghada, is the Crown in the Jewels for windsurfers and kitesurfers of all abilities due to its constant wind throughout the year. Surfing is possible all year round although the best months are from October to April.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach is 2 kms long with glorious white sand and plenty of space. There is a small shaded terrace, a group of 16 or so eco huts, a few chalets, a dive centre and a kitesurf hut. The spot lies nestled between mangrove swamps and apart from one hotel a mile away, the spot is a camper's paradise.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds are thermals which blow predominantly from the north, north east or north northeast, all of which directions work well here. The winds are constant here and from April to September they are strong and reliable. The summer winds although constant are not as strong. The waters are turquoise and crystal clear and there is a large shallow area, around 2 x 1 km, which is perfect for beginners. The water here is flat to choppy with stronger winds. The lagoon lies in a protected bay with a sandy bottom and a small reef in the south. This whole spot is protected by an outer reef with a 500 m wide channel to the deeper sea. The water in the channel is very flat and over 2 metres deep. If you venture out about 300 meters north from here there are 2 point breaks at a reef break, where the water is still deep enough to surf.

Facilities

Parking WC Shower

There is parking here with easy access to the beach. The spot is well set up for surfers and there is a school, a rental shop and a repair center. Also there are toilet and shower facilities on the beach and a restaurant. You can stay in large tents on the waters edge or even stone huts with en suite bathrooms. This may not be the place for you if you want anything other than surfing but its a great place to chill and chat to friends at the end of a great day spent surfing in idyllic surroundings.

Safety

Rescue boat

This is a fairly safe spot but should you get into difficulties, there is a rescue boat on hand.
