General Information
Level:8-10 Season:April 1 — November 1 -
Wallnau lies to the west of the Island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea and is a popular tourist destination as well as being widely used by fairly experienced surfers, wind and kite surfers and sailors. The season is mainly from April to November although off season is possible if you don't mind the cold.

Beach
-
There is a narrow beach with lots of pebbles, larger stones and wind breakers. Further north the beach tends to get more crowded in the summer months as there are no wind breaks. There is also a grassy dam area which can be used for rigging. You can get here by following the signs to Wallnau and then drive on for 1 km. Drive to the dam where the street curves round to the left, following it for about 200 meters and then park in the parking lot to the left. There is a fee during the season. Walk ahead to the dam for about 100 meters.

Wind&Waves
-
The winds are mainly frontal westerlies with depressions and average around 12 knots. They are best from fall to spring as the summer winds tend to be much lighter. The best wind directions for the area are south west and north and sideshore NNE and SSW. The water quality is good and clear and all the time westerlies are blowing you will get some small waves which increase in size with onshore winds. You can get some really good, fun waves in a south west wind but you do need to be watchful of the small wooden wind breaks that are in the water. Summers are nice and warm with water temperatures of around 15-22 degrees and air temperature around 15 degrees, rising to a maximum of 30 degrees.
-
Facilities
-
There is very little here aside from toilet facilities and parking. For shops, restaurants and bars you need to head into Burg. You will also get some nightlife there during the summer.
-
Safety
-
There is no easy launch for kitesurfers due to the wind breakers, large stone and lack of space. This makes it unsuitable for beginners. Watch for holiday makers on the north beach in the summer months.
