General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — November 1

Weissenhaus is located on the north coast of Germany in the Schleswig-Holstein district and looks out onto the Baltic Sea. It is a great spot for sailing and surfing of all types due to the constant wind. All abilities are catered for here and the season runs mainly from April to November.

Beach

There is a long narrow sandy beach which tends to turn into pebbles the closer west you go towards the cliffs. There are two zones, one for surfers and the other for kite and wind surfers. The beach can get very crowded in the summer months and so it is often better to arrive really early in the morning or much later in the day. You can get here by driving along the B202 into Weissenhaus and then just drive straight ahead to the beach, where there is plenty of parking.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind is constant in this area and is mainly frontal westerlies with depressions although the wind can die a death in front of the cliffs. The winds are best from fall to spring with the best directions being north west and west north west. The water is clean and has plenty of waves which start at 5 Bft and can get very large. The west winds make clean waves but northwest destrys them a bit, although they get higher, up to 2.5 meters. The waves break close to the beach. Out of all the Baltic spots, the water seems to be coldest here and you probably need to wear a thick wetsuit most of the time. Off season surfing is possible, but the winters are extremely cold.

Facilities

There is nothing at this beach apart from parking. For shops, restaurants and bars, you need to head into nearby Wangels which has plenty to offer.

Safety

As the area is so popular with surfers of all types, make sure that you stay in the designated zones.
