General Information
Level:0-10 Season:September 1 — April 30 -
This is a good spot, right on the tip of a narrow spit of land. It is a windsurfing and kitesurfing spot, and can be ridden by all abilities including beginners.
-
Beach
-
The beach is quite small, sitting on the end of the point. It’s sandy and clean, with the odd rock sticking out of it. There is a grassy area nearby, but the council has prohibited its use for kite surfing. Fortunately, it doesn’t really get crowded, just healthily busy.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The northeast seabreeze is the best direction for the wind, which makes your ride parallel with the sandbar. The southeast works well too, though a straight south wind isn’t good at all. Speeds will be between 10 and 20 knots most of the time, and you’ll have a useable wind between September and April. The water is flat in all winds except for a south easterly, when it can get a bit choppy. The water isn’t the cleanest around, but it doesn’t smell too badly and at least it is shallow. Low tide is best avoided as its just a bit too shallow.
-
Facilities
-
There are showers and toilets right at the spot, along with some food outlets to keep you going. Parking is a short walk from the beach, or there is a train station about 1km away. You are about a 40 minute drive from both Brisbane and Gold Coast, so its easy to reach from either place.
-
Safety
-
Wear boots because of the shells and rocks. Mind the bridge once you are out on the water.
