General Information

Level:1-10 Season:April 1 — November 1

This is a spot that appeals to surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers as this exposed stretch of coast provides a variety of conditions. That doesn't mean it's a particularly difficult spot, and in fact all ability levels are able to use this spot safely.

Beach

Sand

The beach consists of hard sand, and its size depends on the state of the tide – it can be very small at high tide, and a few hundred metres wide at low tide. You don't really get any crowds here, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a spot to launch a kite from. The climate is average for the area, with the water reaching a maximum of about 22° C in summer and falling back to 4 or 5° C in winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

As usual for the Belgian coast the best times to be here are in spring and autumn as the summer months offer very little wind.  The best wind directions are from the south-west or the west, and the usual range is 10 to 20 knots although what 30 knots is possible if a strong depression is forming up nearby. At low tide the water will be flat or choppy depending on the wind strength, and at high tide you will often get waves around 1 m high in light winds and two or 3 m high in strong winds.

Facilities

Parking Access by public transport

There aren't really any facilities here, but there doesn't seem to be much point in building anything on the beach when you are within a couple of minutes walk of the town centre.  Parking is available very close to the beach, and the town has all the usual facilities available.

Safety

Just watch out for the wave breakers that are every few hundred metres along the shoreline. They are easy to spot though and shouldn't really cause anybody any problems.
