General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

This spot is also known as surfers Beach, and it’s easy to see why when you set eyes on it. It is suitable for all abilities, though the wave quality can be a bit inconsistent.

Beach

The beach here is long and sandy, bordered by big dunes. It is right off Ocean View Drive in Wellfleet, and there is a parking lot right by it. If you are here over the summer you’ll need to buy a beach parking permit to use the lot, and these are more expensive than in some other areas.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind here only ever comes in from the northwest and west, and the swell needs to be from the southeast for any surf to happen. The swell starts building at about 1m and holds up to 3m or so, breaking both right and left on the sandbars which are constantly shifting. The waves are just powerful enough to make them fun, but the ride length is short on most days. On a good day, the ride length can reach up to 150m though, so it can still give a good ride. There aren’t many surfers here during the week, but it will get crowded at weekends especially when summer and the good weather arrives. Get here early, 6am or so, to beat the crowds and get the best chance of good waves.

Facilities

Wellfleet offers a decent range of facilities for tourists, from accommodation to bars and restaurants. It is a popular tourist destination and well known for its fish, especially the local oysters.

Safety

There are rips and undertows out here. The dunes are soft sand a real pain when returning to the parking lot, but no danger.
