General Information

Level:0-10 Season:October 1 — April 30

This is a curved piece of land that forms Onehunga Bay and catches a good north wind. It is a quiet place, one where you would be happy to spend all day and not see anybody else, and it is good for kitesurfing and windsurfing whether you are experienced or not.

Beach

The beach is sandy with a few pebbles mixed in and runs along the side of the road. It isn't very big, but there are grassy areas across the road behind it where you can sort out rigging. The water temperature will be in the mid-20s in summer, and down to around 10° C in winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

You get the best wind here when it is blowing from the north or the north-west and it does so pretty much all year round, though most people will come during the warmer weather between October and April.  The water is clean, and depending on the wind strength the surface will be either choppy or giving small waves up to about 1 m to 1.5 m high.

Facilities

You can park anywhere just off the road, most people try and head for the north tip.  There are no facilities here, but the town of Titahi Bay is just a couple of kilometres south and it is a popular spot for surfers to visit, so should have some decent places to eat and stay. If you like a bit more nightlife then Wellington is about 60 km away.

Safety

There are a few rocks close to the beach, and the road behind it has the odd car passing by.
