General Information
Level:6-10 Season:June 1 — September 30 -
Right on the northern shore of Maui this is an excellent big wave spot for expert surfers, windsurfers and kiters.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and fairly small, and it is also surrounded by rocks so everybody needs to be careful when they get out on the water. Typically for Maui the temperatures here don't vary by more than a few degrees and you'll never find the air or the water to be less than the mid 20s, so board shorts will be final year round.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main direction here for the wind is from the east and the best direction is from the north east. The winds are at their best and most consistent during the summer months from June to September, and although they do blow all year round they tend to be lighter in fall and winter and a bit less consistent. Summer wind speed will be anything from 15 to 25 knots while winter and spring will see a range between 10 and 20 knots. The water here is crystal clear as you'd expect and varies between medium waves from 1 to 3m and big waves reaching over 3m on good days.
-
Facilities
-
This is a fairly remote spot on an isolated beach. There aren't even any towns close by so you will have to make sure that you bring everything you need with you.
-
Safety
-
The reef is on the shallow here and some of the rocks stick out of the water so you need to be careful not to catch them. At this point on the island the currents also build up and can be fairly strong so you need to know how to handle these safely.
