General Information
Level:3-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
This spot offers a little bit more of a challenge than most of the places that are in cities, and because of this it is isn’t really a beginners spot. It is right in Yeppoon, and easy (at least by Australian standards) to reach from the main tourist areas of Queensland.
-
Beach
-
The size of the beach depends on the tide, and it gets really small at high tide. At low tide it’s a good size with lots of room, and consists of hard packed sand. There are no crowds here, but as ever just keep an eye out for others using the spot. The water temperature is great all year round, never dropping below 25C and reaching a high of about 29 C.
-
Wind&Waves
-
North east and south east winds provide the best experiences at this spot, and they can come in all year round although the winter months can be a bit less predictable or consistent. Average windspeeds can be between 15 and 25 knots. The water is clean and visibility is good, while the surface is choppy or has small waves up to 1m high, depending on the wind strength.
-
Facilities
-
Parking is in the large lot just behind the beach, off Anzac Parade. While the beach itself doesn’t have any facilities, you are within walking distance of the town and it has the usual array of places to eat and drink, hotels and guesthouses, and the odd place for a bit of nightlife.
-
Safety
-
Mind the stone wall around the beach, its there to protect the area from high tides. There are also rocks to the north and south ends of the beach.
